Trading Darkness for Divine Light
We have a choice—spiritual darkness or spiritual light. Sin, in all its heaviness, is dark, and Satan is the source of this darkness. “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12). Anything that does not stem from God, thrives in darkness. There is no gray area.
In stark contrast, Jesus is light. He was born to bring light to a dark world. That darkness became the sin that He bore on the cross. In John 8:12, Jesus debated the Pharisees and said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” He is our exclusive source of spiritual light. Like a lighthouse directing a ship through a storm, the light of Jesus charts our course. By following Him, we can trade darkness and sin for light and deliverance in Him.
As believers, we, too, can brighten our world. Jesus said in Matthew 5:14-16, “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” We are called to carry the light of Jesus and share it with those around us in our word and actions. Each of us has the potential to reach people for Christ and shine His light wherever we go.
Your Call to Action
Let the light of Jesus, that dwells within you, guide your actions and decisions. Live a life that glorifies God—a life that openly demonstrates His grace, love, and truth. Engage in your community, speak out for what is right, reach out to lost people, and spread Christ’s love and salvation. Be the change you wish to see in your neighborhood, your city, your country. Let’s make a difference for His Kingdom!
“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son” (Colossians 1:13).
“To open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they will receive forgiveness for their sins and be given a place among God’s people, who are set apart by faith in me” (Acts 26:18).
“For you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light” (1 Peter 2:9).
Prayer
Dear God, thank You for giving us the gift of Jesus, the bright light in our world. He is the hope we lean on. We want to follow the light of Jesus, sharing His love and truth with those around us. Please give us the opportunity to tell others about Him and give us the words to say that would make a difference. In Your name, we pray, Amen.
A Comforting Closure
The radiant light of Jesus is our constant companion, guiding us to a better, brighter world.
