Trump Keeps Campaign Promises With YUGE Tax Overhaul

President Donald Trump outlined his key tax priorities in a meeting with House Republican leaders Thursday (Feb. 6), offering the largest tax cuts in history for working middle class Americans.

What Do The Cuts Entail?

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters about the cuts shortly after the meeting. Trump allegedly told leaders that he wants to see these priorities outlined in a “sweeping tax bill this year,” according to Bloomberg.

Recently-confirmed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the process of defining tax policy, but it is an absolute priority for the Trump administration. “President Trump will give us his priorities, but I can tell you the real priority is fixing this affordability crisis for the American people,” Bessent said in an interview with Bloomberg Television.

What Does This Mean For You?

It sounds like the ins-and-outs of all Trump’s intended tax policies aren’t quite flushed out yet. In comments shared on X, it seemed like the recent announcement didn’t go as far as many wanted. “Property tax for seniors should be a priority. I’m tired of seeing our senior citizens choose between meds, food, utilities or losing their houses to property taxes. It’s heartbreaking and should not happen,” wrote one user. Ending property tax for seniors seemed to be a priority (within the sample briefly surveyed by Million Voices).

A lot of people called for the IRS to be abolished or for some type of additional relief, particularly given the recent revelations over government waste under the previous administration. “This is actually underwhelming, now that we’ve been briefed on what the government has been doing with our tax money,” wrote another user.
