Trump Teases Major Speech for America 250

President Donald Trump announced last weekend that he is weighing a major speech and political rally tied to America’s 250th birthday celebration in Washington, D.C. The move comes after a wave of musical performers pulled out of the planned Great American State Fair on the National Mall.
Trump posted about the idea on his Truth Social platform, casting himself as a bigger draw than any act on the original lineup. “I am thinking about bringing the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World,” Trump wrote, referring to himself. He added that he “gets much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime” and does so “without a guitar.”
What Trump Is Proposing
In the same post, Trump said he has directed his representatives to “look at the feasibility of doing an AMERICA IS BACK Rally on Wednesday, Washington, D.C., same time, same location.” He described the event as a “Wild and Beautiful Celebration of America” open to “Great Patriots” only.
A White House spokesperson referred reporters back to Trump’s Truth Social post when asked for additional details. No official announcement has been made confirming whether the rally will move forward.
Freedom 250 spokesperson Danielle Alvarez told The Washington Post and The Hill that Trump will “personally kick off this historic celebration on Wednesday, June 24, in an opening ceremony celebrating America’s 250th birthday.” It remains unclear whether that appearance will take the form of a rally, a speech, or the original concert opening.
About the Great American State Fair
The Great American State Fair is a 16-day event running from June 25 through July 10, 2026. It is planned to stretch across the National Mall from the U.S. Capitol to the Washington Monument. The fair is set to include concert stages, state pavilions, exhibits, rides, and other attractions.
The event is being organized by Freedom 250, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and public-private partnership created by the White House. Its purpose is to coordinate the celebrations of the United States’ 250th anniversary alongside federal agencies. The fair also includes a salute to veterans and a “MAHA Monday,” tied to the “Make America Healthy Again” initiative.
Other Freedom 250 events include a UFC fight on the White House lawn, a FIFA World Cup fan center on the National Mall, and a large-scale fireworks show in the nation’s capital on Independence Day.
Artists Withdraw From the Lineup
The concert series was announced on May 27th and was quickly followed by a string of high-profile cancellations. Bret Michaels, lead singer of the rock band Poison, became the fifth performer to withdraw. He posted on Instagram Friday that he made the “difficult decision to step away,” citing safety concerns for his fans, band, crew, and family.
“Unfortunately, what was presented to us as a celebration of our country has evolved into something much more divisive than what I agreed to be a part of,” Michaels wrote.
Country singer Martina McBride also withdrew, stating she was misled about the nature of the event. “I was presented with an opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event, but that turned out to be misleading,” McBride wrote on Instagram. She said she had asked questions and was assured the event was nonpartisan and meant to celebrate all 50 states.
R&B group The Commodores also pulled out, as did Young MC, Morris Day and The Time, and C+C Music Factory. Members of Milli Vanilli were reportedly split, with the “original/real vocalists” stating they would not perform.
Who Is Still Performing
Not everyone has walked away. Vanilla Ice confirmed he is still planning to take the stage. “Come on, man, let’s go. I’m super honored to do this concert with everybody,” he said on Instagram. “It’s all about enjoying the great times of 250 years, man.”
Rapper Flo Rida was also still planning to perform as of Friday, according to the New York Post. Freedom 250 has not publicly addressed specific reasons for the departures, though the exits have raised questions about the concert series as originally envisioned.
Organizers have not confirmed whether replacement musicians will be recruited to fill the gaps left by the withdrawals. It also remains unclear whether Trump’s proposed rally would replace the concerts entirely or run alongside any remaining performances.
Freedom 250 released a statement Saturday saying the fair will “bring together all states and territories” to “showcase the very best of America” through attractions, exhibits, musical performances, and more. The group did not directly respond to Reuters’ request for comment on Trump’s rally proposal.
