Virginia High School Accused of Arranging Abortions Without Parental Consent

Troubling news is coming out of Fairfax County, Virginia, where a report brought to the attention of ABC 7 News claims that two female students, both minors, say school staff arranged and financed abortions without notifying their parents. If true, this would be a direct violation of Virginia’s parental-notification law.
In a statement from one of the students, whose name was redacted for privacy, she wrote, “I study at Centreville High School and I am currently in 11th grade ESOL. Last year I went to see social worker Carolina Diaz. She helped me with the termination of my pregnancy—that is, an abortion. Mrs. Carolina Diaz scheduled the appointment for me at the abortion clinic in Fairfax, paid the costs of that medical procedure, and kept everything quiet without informing my family. I feared my family would react very badly if they found out about my pregnancy and the abortion.”
The student concluded her letter, stating, “When the abortion was performed, I was only 17 years old. My date of birth is [redacted] 2004, and the abortion was carried out in November of 2021.”
Abortion Laws and State Responses After Roe’s Reversal
After the overturning of Roe v. Wade, abortion law was returned to the authority of individual states, where it originally resided. Since then, several states have acted to protect or expand abortion access through executive orders or legislative measures. Some examples include California, Maryland, and Massachusetts, which have positioned themselves as states that will safeguard abortion services.
In contrast, Virginia law clearly outlines that a physician must not knowingly perform an abortion on an unemancipated minor without consent from a parent or legal guardian, or a judicial bypass order from the court. The statute also requires that, in cases where a court order is obtained, any notice requirements in that order must be followed.
Fairfax County Schools Launch Investigation
7News reached out to Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) regarding the claims. In response, the district announced it would launch an investigation:
“We learned yesterday of these concerning allegations from 2021. We are launching an immediate and comprehensive investigation as we take all concerns of student wellbeing very seriously.”
According to FCPS guidelines:
“School counselors, school social workers, school psychologists, and other staff members shall be aware and follow the guidelines below regarding counseling pregnant students and distributing literature about pregnancy, birth control, venereal disease, and private and public agencies providing services for pregnant students.”
With such guidelines in place, many view these alleged actions as a serious breach of trust between schools and parents.
Public Outcry and Pro-Life Response
Pro-life activist Lila Rose took to X to share her concerns, stating that the individuals responsible should “be behind bars” and asking, “What are they [schools] trying to cover up?”
The girl who fled confided in another teacher who said:
“The girl never wanted that abortion, and her family was never told…” ⁰
Why is a high school working so hard to abort these girls’ babies – even against their will?
What are they trying to cover up?

The W.C. Dispatch also reported that they had heard an audio recording from the parents stating, “The girl never wanted that abortion, and her family was never told.”
The Legal and Moral Stakes
In the wake of backlash from states that disagree with the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade, it should come as no surprise to some observers that controversial and troubling incidents like this might occur. Nevertheless, such allegations are deeply concerning to those who care about protecting both the unborn and parental rights.
Virginia law is unambiguous on the matter:
“A physician shall not knowingly perform an abortion upon an unemancipated minor unless consent has been obtained or the minor delivers to the physician a court order entered pursuant to this section and the physician or his agent provides such notice as such order may require.”
If these allegations prove true, they point to a breakdown in accountability and a disregard for legal safeguards designed to ensure parents are informed and involved in significant medical decisions affecting their children.
A Growing Divide in Education and Policy
Across the nation, states are divided on how to approach abortion policy. Many have moved to protect abortion access, while others have passed more conservative policies aimed at limiting the procedure. This divide reflects a larger cultural and political rift, and schools are increasingly finding themselves on the front lines of these conflicts.
In Virginia, at the very least, schools should be vigilant in preventing staff from facilitating abortions in violation of state law. Parents expect educators to protect their children, not circumvent their rights.
A Call to Action for the Church and Communities
Beyond the political and legal implications, this story highlights a deeper moral concern: young women navigating unplanned pregnancies in secrecy and fear. Many lack the support they need to choose life, and too often, the voices guiding them may not align with their best interests or values.
Prayers are urgently needed for these young women. Churches must step into the gap, offering counsel, resources, and tangible help. At the same time, Christian citizens can hold school boards and local officials accountable. Petitioning school boards, attending public meetings, and speaking truth into the public square are all ways believers can ensure that the sanctity of life and parental authority are respected.
