5 Warnings For Harris Post-DNC: POLITICO

POLITICO said Tuesday that there are five clear warning signs for Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign for the presidency after her performance at the Democratic National Convention.

“The energy is good, but the energy has to be harnessed for good because energy not harnessed doesn’t always turn out to be good energy in politics,” said Democratic strategist Antjuan Seawright, sounding similar to Harris in the analysis. What does he mean? Well, he means that Harris may have good energy but that doesn’t mean anything when it comes to the election. And she’s failing in five key areas.

Polling

Democrats are concerned that Harris is public, mainstream polling is doing okay. It’s when we move onto the Internet that things become clearer. “Nobody knows what to believe, except that Trump’s numbers are probably underrepresented,” Democratic strategist Doug Herman told Politico.

Public Perception

Trump has sat for multiple television, digital, and radio interviews throughout his campaign, as well as appearing at a swath of public events where he speaks freely and candidly to the press. “Harris] has always struggled with interviews and has an argumentative streak in those interviews. She vacillates between argumentative and word salad,” said another Democratic strategist.

“Despite pledging earlier this month to “schedule” an interview before the end of August, nowadays away, there are still no public plans for her first sit-down as the Democratic nominee. Debate

Most people are excited to see how Harris fairs against Trump. The pressure is really on for her to deliver. After President Joe Biden’s debate performance, the Democratic party ousted him from running for president — what would they do if Harris doesn’t perform well?

“A presidential debate with Trump, a white man nearly 20 years her senior with a history of unsavory outbursts, is a prime opportunity for Harris to contrast herself with the former president and reintroduce herself to a national audience,” Politico notes. She’ll also have to answer for her inaction throughout her time in public office, which could make this reintroduction a little uncomfortable.

No Policy

Harris hasn’t released her platform or policies yet. One document was released back in July, which still had all of Biden’s information on it when it was “rereleased” in August as the “draft Democratic party platform.”

The platform does not mention Harris other than in the context of the Biden-Harris administration. “Harris’ campaign so far has been light on specific policy, making it more difficult for her to maneuver around Republican attacks that she’s too progressive and a flip-flopper,” Politico described. “Her campaign website includes no policy language, and although she’s spoken about her economic and foreign policy agendas during campaign events and her DNC address, specifics have been scarce.”

Demographics

“Trump still polls more strongly among men and white voters, both nationally and in the battleground states,” Politico added. But she still has to try and get every other demographic of voter to support her too, especially since so many are turning away from Democrats due to the state of the nation.
