Mayor Eric Adams Leaves Democrats Behind In Reelection Campaign, Claims There’s A ‘Permanent Government’

New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced Monday (March 31) that he is “not running on the Democratic line” in his upcoming reelection.
Adams will face off against former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who announced on March 1 that he is also campaigning for the position, according to Fox News, and Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, ABC 7 reported. Adams is running as an independent candidate, blaming a recent scandal for his choice to not run in a primary campaign for the Democrats. “More than 25,000 New Yorkers signed my Democratic primary petition, but the dismissal of the bogus case against me dragged on too long, making it impossible to mount a primary campaign while these false accusations were held over me,” Adams said during his announcement, according to the New York Post. “But I’m not a quitter. I’m a New Yorker,” he added, “and that is why today, although I am still a Democrat, I am announcing that I will forgo the Democratic primary for mayor and appeal directly to all New Yorkers as an independent candidate in the general election.”
Adams’ Interview With Andrew Schulz Takes Strange Direction Against Democratic Party
An interview with Adams published the same day shed further light on the scandal and how it influenced the mayor’s reelection decision. “FLAGRANT” host Andrew Schulz noted in their conversation that the last time Adams broke ties with the Democrat party, and called out the insane amount of spending on the seemingly unending illegal immigrant crisis, he was suddenly hit with a massive scandal involving alleged luxury travel and illegal campaign contributions from Turkish nationals (per Fox).
U.S. District Judge Dale E. Ho dismissed the federal charges against Adams on Wednesday.

Judge Ho dismissed the case with prejudice, the Daily Caller reported, arguing that he did not have the authority to order the Department of Justice (DOJ) to continue prosecution, expressing no merits of the case.
Adams described how his choice to publicly criticize the Biden administration’s $7 billion spending on the illegal immigration crisis likely had something to do with the DOJ looking into Adams. When asked who he felt the order to investigate came from, Adams told Schulz and his co-hosts that “there’s a permanent government.” Adams failed to really expand beyond these comments, noting that he didn’t want to come across as a conspiracy theorist.
Working With The Trump Administration?
Adams appears to be working with the Trump administration on the illegal immigration crisis in his city. New York’s Roosevelt Hotel’s Asylum Arrival Center and Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Center will be closing in due course following the significant drop in migrants arriving in the city, according to the Daily Caller. He has stated the importance of removing illegal aliens with additional criminal histories from the country. While Adams has not made any direct comments about working with Trump in recent interviews, he did mention FBI Director Kash Patel’s book “Government Gangsters,” CNN reported.
Keep Acting Local
Politicians you elect in your city, county, and state usually have a greater impact on your daily life than anyone in the federal government. During “off-years,” these local races send ripple effects throughout American communities. It is up to you to stay engaged and shape the future.
It seems like every time we at Million Voices speak to lawmakers and their teams, they all tell us the same thing: if just 10 people in their district write letters about issues that matter to them, elected officials know they have a serious crisis on their hands. A thousand people could message that same lawmaker via email or social media, and it would mean nothing. But hand-written, or even printed and signed letters, will make your politicians take action (if they really care about your vote, that is).
Contacting your representatives should be easy, but there are myriad ways they can ignore your calls to action. That’s where we come in.
Yes, Million Voices helps you with voter guides. Yes, we send letters from YOU directly to your elected officials because it’s the only way to guarantee they’ll listen to you. Yes, we publish data, articles, text messages, and help bridge the gap between education and civic action. But what do you want? Tell us today.
We want to make YOU the hero of our American story by giving you the tools you need to make a difference, from your local, state, all the way up to the federal level.
Join us in our mission to advocate for religious freedom, support fair and secure elections, and uphold the values that this great nation was built upon. Tell us what you want from the next four years, and we will fight to make it a reality … again!
