NYC Mayor Indicted For Bribery, Fraud, ‘Selling Influence’

New York City Democratic Mayor Eric Adams was indicted on five federal charges in late September related to illegal bribes he took from foreign nationals, wire fraud, and conspiracy.

Adams’ charges of illegal campaign contributions and bribes from foreign nationals include things like “lavish overseas trips, in exchange for favors that included helping Turkish officials bypass a fire safety inspection for a new diplomatic tower in the city,” wrote The Associated Press. The Democrat celebrity mayor’s charges include one county of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, solicit foreign contributions and accept bribes, two counts of solicitation of a contribution by a foreign nation, one count wire fraud, one count bribery, according to the Daily Caller. “Among other things, prosecutors allege that Adams received free and steeply discounted flight upgrades valued at more than $100,000, as well as campaign contributions from straw donors, some of which helped him qualify for more than $10 million in matching public campaign funds,” The AP noted.

Calls For Resignation

Three Democratic New York House candidates called for Adams’ resignation immediately following the indictment, Politico reported. Their calls came shortly after New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told X followers that she does “not see how Mayor Adams can continue governing New York City.”

“The flood of resignations and vacancies are threatening gov function. Nonstop investigations will make it impossible to recruit and retain a qualified administration. For the good of the city, he should resign,” she added. (MORE: Harris To Reportedly Skip Catholic Charity Dinner)
