America’s Most Patriotic States Ranked (2025 STUDY)

Jun 24, 2025

Today we wanted to bring you an interesting study from WalletHub that ranked each state by levels of patriotism. You might be surprised at how the results turned out.

WalletHub’s methodology ranked each state by two key dimensions: Military Engagement and Civic Engagement. These dimensions were broken down into 13 relevant metrics, including things like the average number of enlistees, number of veterans, number of people who voted in the 2024 presidential election, educational requirements for civics classes, and more. “The most patriotic states have a lot of residents who serve or have served in the armed forces, high voter turnouts during elections, and a high share of the population volunteering with national or local organizations,” said WalletHub analyst Chris Lupo. “Patriotism also isn’t concentrated in any one particular area – the top states are located in vastly different geographic regions.”

The Results

Virginia ranked #1 overall as the most patriotic state in the U.S., followed closely by Montana, Vermont, Colorado, and — surprisingly to some — Oregon. While most people associate Oregon with Portland, one of the most far-left jurisdictions in the nation, it actually ranks #3 for civic engagement.

When controlled by each dimension, Alaska ranked #1 for military engagement, while Vermont ranked #1 for civic engagement. Alaska has the highest number of veterans per capita, while Georgia and Alaska were ranked #1 and #2 respectively for average number of enlistees.

Minnesota hosts the highest number of people who voted in the 2024 election, while Arkansas sat dead-last, right behind Texas, Louisiana, Hawaii, and Alabama. (TAKE A POLL: Ten Commandments Bill Signed Into Law; Do You Want Religious Education In Your State?)

Arkansas, New York, Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida ranked the lowest for patriotism, but we wouldn’t dare say that to anyone living in these states. Actually, we’d bet that these five states host some of the biggest patriots our nation has to offer, calling into question the efficacy of WalletHub’s methodology (which is highly limited, but interesting all the same).

Utah has the highest number of volunteers. Analysts for Million Voices posited that this is likely due to the positive influence of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints.

“A patriot is someone who loves their country enough to, in the words of the founders, ‘pledge their lives, their fortune, and their sacred honor.'” said Dr. Timothy W. Kneeland of Nazareth University. “It is someone who will not shy away from the self sacrifice for the good of the country. This could be military heroes or civil rights heroes.” (RELATED: ‘Separation Of Church And State Is A Lie’: Legal Precedent Collapses Bringing Religious Freedom To US)

“The best way to promote patriotism in our schools is to demand unflinching devotion to the facts and the truth, warts, and all, about America’s past, present, and future – and repeal legislation and regulations that censor presentations, discussions, and debates about “hot button” issues, including race and sexual identity. Patronizing students by sanitizing the curriculum and disrespecting the professionalism of teachers does not promote patriotism,” said Glenn Altschuler of Cornell University, when asked about the best ways to promote patriotism.

Thanks to recent Supreme Court rulings, we’re restoring the Ten Commandments to public schools—starting in Texas and Arkansas and expanding nationwide. Together, we can restore timeless values and build a stronger moral foundation for generations to come.

The Ten Commandments have long been regarded as a universal moral code — influencing not only Judeo-Christian faith traditions, but also Western legal systems, including the United States. Their values — honoring parents, respecting property, upholding truth — align with the ethical standards society expects of all citizens.

That’s why we need your continued support. Your gift is the difference maker. It empowers a national movement to reclaim our moral foundations and restore faith-based values where they once stood proudly.

Help us return a foundational piece of America’s moral and civic heritage to public schools in every state. For just $25–$35 per school, you can help display the Ten Commandments—a timeless symbol of justice, responsibility, and truth—across an entire campus.

For more than 3,000 years, the Ten Commandments have guided the development of Western Civilization.

In Texas alone, over 11,000 schools are waiting. In Arkansas, more than 1,000 campuses are ready. That’s over 350,000 classrooms where this message can shine — with your help.

🔹 For just $25–$35, you can sponsor an entire school.
