AZ Gov. Katie Hobbs Vetoes Support Of Christ, Women

Apr 23, 2024

Arizona Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs vetoed two bills Tuesday that would have protected girls and women while also allowing the Ten Commandments to be placed in public schools.

Hobbs decided not to support Arizona Senate Bill 1628, which would have amended the state’s sex discrimination laws and rules to replace the word “gender” with “sex,” so as to emphasize the importance of one’s biological sex at birth, according to the Christian Post. The bill was colloquially referred to as the Arizona Women’s Bill of Rights and was passed by the Republican-controlled Senate in February.

“The purpose of this act is to bring clarity, certainty, and uniformity to the laws of this state regarding sexual discrimination, equality of the sexes, and benefits or services that are specifically provided to males and men and females and women,” the legislation states.

“Today, I vetoed Senate Bill 1628. As I have said time and again, I will not sign legislation that attacks Arizonans,” Hobbs wrote in a one-line letter to Arizona Senate president Warren Petersen. (LEARN MORE: School To Pay $80,000 For Silencing Christians)

Christ Is “Unnecessary,” Says Hobbs

Hobbs also turned against Senate Bill 1151, which would have allowed public school teachers to display and read excerpts from a slew of historical documents. These include the “the national anthem, pledge of allegiance, the U.S. Constitution, the Mayflower Compact, speeches made by Founding Fathers, the national motto “In God We Trust” and the Ten Commandments,” the outlet described.  (LEARN MORE: Universal School Choice Enacted In 10th State. Hobbs again wrote a brief letter to Petersen explaining why she feels these important aspects of human and American life are not required for our youngest generations. “Today, I vetoed Senate Bill 1151. Not only do I have serious concerns about the constitutionality of this legislation, it is also unnecessary,” Hobbs stated.

Protecting The Youngest Generations

It is your right as an American to protect the most important members of our society: young people. Children enrolled in the American public school system are facing increasingly harder battles that have nothing to do with true education. Most of these issues come from inaction or poisonous action from bad local, state, and federally elected officials who don’t want to protect your children. You can help change this today.

You can tell your local, state, and federally elected officials how you want your public schools to behave today. Sign up for www.MillionVoices.org today (text MV to 80550). We’ll ensure your voice is heard. Our mission is to ensure the voice of voters and taxpayers is turned into action, and your elected officials are held responsible for their actions.
