Despite inherent risks from the Chinese Communist’s Party ability to spy on Americans through the data collected by the TikTok social media app, Americans seem extremely divided over a bill that could ban it from the country if its owners do not sell their stake in the company.

A ban on TikTok was already technically passed by the U.S. House of Representatives in March. But the bill has to continue moving forward until full national implementation. “We have given TikTok a clear choice,” said Washington Republican Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers. “Separate from your parent company ByteDance, which is beholden to the CCP (the Chinese Communist Party), and remain operational in the United States, or side with the CCP and face the consequences. The choice is TikTok’s.” (LEARN MORE: Experts Warn Of China ‘Smokescreen’)

Bill Backfire On Biden?

“I think it’s going to be a very fine line they’re going to have to walk,” digital strategist Annie Wu Henry told The Hill. “Someone might think, ‘You know, as long as it’s there, it’s fine that they’re using it.’ But some people might find it hypocritical.” (LEARN MORE: China Uses TikTok As U.S. ‘Trojan Horse’)

More than a third of Americans younger than 30 say they get their news via TikTok, according to Newsmax, suggesting the app is extremely important to their day-to-day lives. While the threat of espionage and other manipulation from the CCP is a legitimate concern, young voters don’t care and could hold Biden accountable for taking their favorite app away.

But most Americans are annoyed that Biden and a bipartisan group of lawmakers seem more focused on TikTok than fixing the food security and cost crisis, as well as issues like the open border and ever-growing threat of terror attacks. (LEARN MORE: The AP Finds 63% Doubt Biden’s Mental Capacity)
