Bomb Threats Overwhelm Small US Town Amid Migrant Crisis
A report published in mid-September detailed how residents of Springfield, Ohio, are continuing to suffer a “dystopian nightmare” as illegal immigrants overwhelmed their town since 2021.
Multiple bomb threats have led to forced evacuations of Springfield city hall, two schools, and the DMV in the last few days, following revelations of the utter mismanagement of an estimate 20,000 Haitian migrants dumped in the city with limited federal support, according to the Washington Stand. On Saturday, Sept. 14, the terror threats spread to both local hospitals, Kettering and Mercy Health.
Both facilities were put on lockdown while law enforcement and other authorities swept the building. As of Saturday afternoon, there were still no indications of who was behind the threats, though FBI are working on it. (LEARN MORE: Christians Called To Shine ‘Light’ On ‘Dark Institutions’)
“You hope you wake up and it’s 2019 again, and then you realize it’s 2024, and it’s the same thing over and over again, day after day,” one resident described. “It’s hard sometimes to get up in the morning and hear residents that I’ve known for years struggle. This is a paycheck-to-paycheck … kind of town … working class.”
Celebrities Don’t Get It
Singer John Legend, who hails from Springfield, told people in his hometown — thousands of miles from his mansion in California — to “embrace” the new population, which added anywhere from 25% to 33% more people to the small town. “You might imagine there are some challenges with, you know, integrating a new population. New language, new culture, new dietary preferences. All kinds of reasons why there might be growing pains,” the singer told whomever was listening.
“How about we love one another? I grew up in the Christian tradition. We said to love our neighbor as we love ourselves and treat strangers as though they might be Christ,” he added, sparking immediate backlash. “Why don’t you house some of [these] illegal immigrants in your huge privileged mansion?” replied one person. “He’s just like you. Except he doesn’t live in Springfield. He lives in a multi-million-dollar mansion in Beverly Hills,” said another. (LEARN MORE: State Finds County Violated Election Law In 2022)
