Claiming Your Mind for Christ

“In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one” (Ephesians 6:16).

The battle for the mind is real, even after we’ve given our hearts and lives to Jesus. Our enemy is on the offense to undermine our surrender and allegiance to Christ. We may be having trouble sleeping, racing thoughts, or anxiety. There may also be condemning feelings from the past for things we said and did before we were saved, including the fight against any lingering addictions. These are indicators of spiritual warfare against our minds. The enemy is the author of lies and confusion, and he works to fill us with doubt, accusing us of not being good enough to be saved and forgiven. Knowing his tactics, we must claim our minds and thoughts for God and force the enemy to lose his grip! Demonic powers fight through strongholds that are not easily removed. “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12). This battle is weighty, but victory is ours in Him! DO NOT give up!

Ask God for discernment to recognize enemy lies and confusion. When wrong thoughts try to enter the mind, declare OUT LOUD with the authority of the blood of Jesus and God’s Word to bind every evil and dark force! The enemy will realize he is losing ground and demons MUST leave when commanded to go in Jesus’ name! Decreeing God’s Word over ourselves is our offensive and defensive weapon. We have divine authority in the Holy Spirit; to call the shots and cast the enemy out!

Be vigilant in the pursuit of renewing peace of mind. “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:2). God sees our struggle and He hears our prayers. He equips us to be strong, free, to grow, and prosper. When we keep our eyes on HIM, not on our problem, we are overcomers in Jesus’ name!

Call to Action: What enters the eyes and ears feeds the mind and heart. Keeping our minds filled with scripture and worship music are two powerful ways to actively stand guard for what resides within us. The enemy won’t linger in the presence of godly things.

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things” (Philippians 4:8).

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing, and perfect will” (Romans 12:2).

“’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (Jeremiah 29:11).

Prayer: Father God, we give You all the glory today for Your goodness to us! We ask that You fill our minds and thoughts with good things. We rebuke any attempt of the enemy to steal our joy through negative thinking. In the name of Jesus Christ, we bind any evil and dark force, casting them out by the authority of Jesus. We keep our eyes on You and are assured we will be victorious over this battle. In Your name, we pray, Amen.

Final Thought: As you take command of your mind, watch how God moves in your life!
