The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) website went live Wednesday (Feb. 12), and you’ll probably want to sit down before you learn how lawmakers were spending your tax dollars.
Where Did DOGE Come From?
You may have heard people say that DOGE is not a real government agency because it’s run by Elon Musk, the billionaire technologist who owns X. But this is not true. When you click on the “About” section of the DOGE website, you’re diverted to President Donald Trump’s Jan. 20 Executive Order “Establishing And Implementing The President’s ‘Department of Government Efficiency.‘”
DOGE was actually the United States Digital Service (USDS), created by former President Barack Obama in 2014. Here is as breakdown of the situation shared on X that we found interesting:

What’s On The DOGE Site?
Navigating the DOGE website is arguably one the cleanest, simplest things you’ll do with your day. It’s a shame the information shared by Elon Musk’s team is likely going to spoil your day. It starts with simple stuff, like how many people work across the three branches of government. The average age, salary, and years employees have worked in each branch are also presented. You might be asking yourself already: “wow, why is this so boring?” (POPULAR: School Choice Bill Flies Through State Senate, Paving The Way Homeschoolers & More)
Well, the data also tells us the total wages of all those who work in each branch of government. At the time of writing, it cost $211,300,000,000 — that’s $211.3 billion — to pay just the 2,252,162 people who work for the Executive Branch.
Unconstitutionality & Regulations
Under the “Regulations” tab on the DOGE site, you’ll find the Unconstitutionality Index,” which provides “the number of agency rules created by unelected bureaucrats for each law passed by Congress in 2024.” DOGE accompanies these figures with data on how many sections of regulations each government agency has and the number of words within those regulations.

What Has DOGE Done So Far?
Reading the DOGE homepage is sort of like delving into an encyclopedia of government spending. The running list of latest updates contains everything from a finding that “$25 billion in tax refunds were delayed or lost due to returned or expired checks” in 2023, to “$10 million for ‘Mozambique voluntary medical male circumcision.'”
You really won’t be able to guess what’ll come next on the running tally. By the time you’re reading this article, another massive revelation may have come to light (if so, we will probably write about it). (MORE NEWS: FLASHBACK! ‘Work Of God’: UGA Students Get Baptisms In Pickup Trucks)
The best way to learn about what DOGE has done so far, and if you agree with their work, is to go to the website and have a click around. You never know what you might find and how it could relate to your life. Whether it’s DOGE itself or the things its members uncover, your voice can be used to guide their work … and not just in the way that they want …
