Ohio lawmakers are set to try and override Republican Gov. Mike DeWine’s decision to protect children in his state from the tyranny of the federal government and Big Pharma.

Ohio will no longer allow children under the age of 18 to receive medical procedures that claim to be able to change their gender. “I signed an executive order just a few moments ago enacting emergency rules that ban gender transition surgeries for minors in any hospital or ambulatory surgical facility in Ohio,” DeWine said in a press conference. “This ban is effective immediately.”

The law also protects mentally ill adults by ensuring they receive plentiful psychological support when they request gender transition surgeries and other types of procedures. Parents Should Make Decisions

“I think it’s a good way to take this issue off the table,” and it’s a good time to “talk about other things,” DeWine said of the order. “I believe parents, not the government, should be making these very crucial medical decisions.”

But some Republicans have said the executive order doesn’t go far enough. “I am cautiously optimistic about the governor’s ban on sex reassignment surgeries for minors today,”  Rep. Gary Click told the outlet, noting “the governor’s temporary administrative orders are no substitute for solid legislation. Children deserve protection that extends beyond four-year increments.” (LEARN MORE: Biden Administration Study Finds Lesbian, Gay, And Bisexual Americans More Likely To Suffer From Major Depression)

What Are Other States Doing?

A total of 23 different states have passed laws related to preventing children from undergoing so-called “transgender surgeries,” protecting parental rights, stopping children from attending sexually explicit events, privacy in women’s facilities, and fairness in girls’ and women’s sports, according to the Washington Stand. A further 193 more laws are currently moving their way through the legal system as 2023 ends, and it’s up to all of us to fight for them to pass.
