Parental Notification Policy Wins In Court

A parental notification policy in a California school district won a preliminary victory in February, paving the way to protect children while they are outside of the home.

The policy requires staff to notify parents if their children request to be referred to as a different gender. The notification process would also require staff to tell parents if their children ask to be called by a different name, even in an unofficial capacity while at school. “Name changing is the first step in ‘social transition,’” Family Research Council’s Meg Kilgannon told the Washington Stand. “This is a serious intervention, made in the name of mental health, and parents should absolutely be — at a minimum — aware of this process. Ideally, parents should be able to opt out of it.”

Parents Have To Fight Against Millionaire Activist Groups

The case came about after Public Counsel sued Temecula Valley USD in late 2023 over both the parental notification policy and another resolution related to critical race theory. The group has a reported annual budget of $16 million, and it is unclear why the people who run the group are targeting families and children. “Parent leaders have dug in, done their research, worked with attorneys and staff to come up with a policy that will ensure parents are informed about consequential decisions made for their children at school, like name changes,” Kilgannon noted of the parent’s win against the group’s efforts. 

“The Temecula school board members who are working to safeguard children from dangerous ideologies like gender ideology and critical race theory will be vilified and demeaned by a loud minority of parents, so it is important that we support them with our prayers, our thanks, and celebrate these victories,” she later added.
