Planet Fitness Takes Financial Hit After Targeting Christian Woman

Planet Fitness’ stock plummeted in late March after the company canceled the membership of a Christian woman who expressed concerns about a mentally ill man in the women’s locker rooms.

Nothing is more terrifying for a woman than realizing you’re alone in a strange place with someone who is biologically stronger and more aggressive than you. This is a feeling universally felt by all women. And it is a particularly scary issue for young girls. So when Patricia Silva saw a man shaving in the women’s locker room at a Planet Fitness — right as a 12-year-old girl walked out wearing only a towel — she said something, according to The Christian Post. Silva asked the man why he was in the women’s locker room. He said he was “queer,” which does not mean he identifies as a woman, even though this wouldn’t have made a difference either. He did not belong in the women’s locker room.

Planet Fitness Hit

Planet Fitness was already going through another major financial hit, seeing numbers drop at the start of the year for the second-worst quarterly sales growth since the pandemic. Stock in the company has been in “freefall” since January, but the hit it took after putting women and girls in danger was incredible.

Corporate’s Major Mistake

When The Christian Post asked Planet Fitness’ corporate affairs officer why Silva was punished for doing the right thing, McCall Gosselin said she’d violated the gym’s policies by taking a photograph of another member. But could it be that Silva was doing what all women are told to do when they feel threatened: say something and gather evidence.

“Planet Fitness is defending the man in the women’s locker room — the man with the penis rather than the child sitting in the corner with the towel wrapped around her,” Silva told people in her video. “So, people, I just want you to know this is weird. It’s not good. It’s rather disturbing.”

“So, I would like for you women to stand up and have a voice and stop these shenanigans. You have authority! Use your authority,” she added. And we agree!
