Wisconsin’s spring election Tuesday centered on two key issues: the vacant Supreme Court seat and a constitutional amendment requiring Voter ID.

The results of Wisconsin’s special election may surprise some readers, as one may typically presume ideology tracks into voting patterns. In the case of Tuesday’s election, many assumed that if Wisconsin residents voted in favor of the constitutional amendment to require voter ID, they would also lean toward the candidate being backed by the person shouting about this issue the loudest.

Technology billionaire Elon Musk campaigned for Supreme Court candidate Brad Schimel, much of his argument centering on the importance of requiring voter ID in order to protect free and fair elections. Supreme Court Results

Schimel stood against Susan Crawford for the vacant Supreme Court seat. At the time of writing, Crawford, described by The Associated Press as the “Democratic-backed candidate,” won the seat with 55% of the vote, per the Washington Post. “As a little girl growing up in Chippewa Falls I never could have imagined that I’d be taking on the richest man in the world for justice in Wisconsin, and we won!” Crawford said in her acceptance speech, according to Newsweek.

Voter ID

While many outlets argue the Supreme Court race was a type of proxy election for billionaires and politicians, others were concerned about Wisconsin’s influence over the rest of the country. (MORE NEWS: WINNING: Americans Reject Claim Church Is ‘Irrelevant’)

“Wisconsin essentially chose the last three presidents by razor-thin margins of 20,000 to 30,000 votes. This incredibly small number of voters are why Wisconsin matters to you, no matter what state you live in,” Million Voices CEO John Graves wrote in an op-ed shortly before the election, asking voters to show up and make a choice on April 1.

Wisconsin voters overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment enshrining voter ID requirements in the state, WISN reported. The amendment passed with 60.3% of the vote, with AP calling the race with 62.7% approving the measure.

You Showed Up!

A message from John Graves:

At Million Voices, we asked people to use their voice to stand in the G.A.P. for America: Give. Act. Pray.

Nehemiah 4:6 says, “the people of God built the wall to half its height because they had a heart to do the work and ‘worked with enthusiasm.'”  Enthusiasm. It comes from two words: En Theos. In God. With God. That is how we work. And never give up.

8,000 Action Partners acted (mailed personal letters, made personal phone calls, mailed Candidate Fact Sheets, sent text of the Candidate Fact Sheets, etc.) to over 315,000 Wisconsin faith voters that don’t vote in special elections. We already know over 75,000 of them voted in a Supreme Court election for the first time. And that is building the wall to half its height.

We don’t stop tonight. Our job is to empower millions of people to use their voices. And we did that. God determines outcomes and we don’t take our eye of our real focus!

THANK YOU!

Protecting America’s Future In The World

Every time we at Million Voices speak to lawmakers and their teams, they all tell us the same thing: if just 10 people in their district write them letters about issues that matter to them, they know they have a serious crisis on their hands. A thousand people could message that same lawmaker via email or social media, and it would mean nothing. But hand-written, or even printed and signed letters, will make your politicians take action (if they really care about your vote, that is).

Contacting your representatives should be easy, but there are myriad ways they can ignore your messages. That’s where we come in.

Yes, Million Voices helps you with voter guides. Yes, we send letters from YOU directly to your elected officials because it’s the only way to guarantee they’ll listen to you. Yes, we publish data, articles, text messages, and help bridge the gap between education and civic action. But what do you want? Tell us today.

We want to make YOU the hero of our American story by giving you the tools you need to make a difference, from your local, state, all the way up to the federal level.

Join us in our mission to advocate for religious freedom, support fair and secure elections, and uphold the values that this great nation was built upon. Tell us what you want from the next four years, and we will fight to make it a reality … again!
