Schumer Blames Voters For Not Realizing ‘How Much’ Dems Did

Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer blamed voters for not realizing “how much” the Democratic party did for them under the Biden administration.

Schumer called the 2024 election a “challenge … against very severe headwinds” while speaking to “Meet The Press” host Kristen Welker. “And we did some things right against very severe headwinds. We kept four of those seven contested Democratic seats. But we did some things wrong. And we have to look in the mirror and see what we did wrong. “One of the things we have to do is we must focus on the working families of America. We believe in them, and we passed all kinds of legislation that helped them: the Infrastructure Bill, which made our economy stronger and employed lots of people,” Schumer claimed. At the time of writing, American credit card loan defaults are at a 14-year high and 56% of American adults cannot pay an emergency $1,000 bill from their savings, according to BankRate. The U.S. also added fewer jobs between 2023 and 2024 than initially reported, NPR added, suggesting Schumer may be wrong about everything he said about the Infrastructure Bill.

Other “Good Things”

Schumer noted the CHIP hubs, which brought manufacturing to Missoula, Montana, and Bloomington, Indiana. The cost of prescription drugs was also reportedly lowered under the Biden administration’s time in office. “So, we did a lot of good things. But all too often, Kristen, we talked about the mechanics of the legislation and the details of the legislation. And we really didn’t show the kind of empathy and concern to average – or show enough of it – to average working families who didn’t realize how much we had done and how much we care for them,” continued Schumer.

“So, what we’re going to do is spend a lot of time talking to working families, showing them how much we care about them, and not just talk about legislation but talk about the conditions that have made so many working families worried about their futures. It is unclear why Schumer and other Democrats didn’t think that engaging with a majority of their voters on the issues that matter to them was important prior to or during the 2024 election season.

Biden’s Mental Decline

Schumer claimed he speaks to President Joe Biden “several times a week” and that his “mental acuity is great, it’s fine, it’s as good as it’s been over the year.” He then said all reports of Biden’s decline are just “right-wing propaganda.” His comments fly in the face of how many Biden supporters feel about our current president.

Following Biden’s performance in the 2024 debates, actor George Clooney asked: “Was he tired? Yes. A cold? Maybe. But our party leaders need to stop telling us that 51 million people didn’t see what we just saw. We’re all so terrified by the prospect of a second Trump term that we’ve opted to ignore every warning sign.” (RELATED: Celebrities Call On Biden To Drop Out Of Race)

“Leader Schumer, what do you say to Americans who feel as though you and other top Democrats misled them about President Biden’s mental acuity?” Welker asked Schumer, who immediately responded: “No. Look, we didn’t.”

He then pivoted, telling Welker, “let’s – let’s look – let’s look at President Biden. He’s had an amazing record. The legislation we passed, one of the most significant groups of legislation since the New Deal – since Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society, putting in 235 judges, a record. And he’s a patriot. He’s a great guy. And when he stepped down, he did it on his own because he thought it was better not only for the Democratic Party, for America. We should all salute him. We should all salute him!”

Will Schumer Lead The Democrats?

Welker noted that when President-elect Donald Trump assumes office later this month, Schumer will be the highest ranking Democrat serving in Washington. “Look, I think we have a lot of great leaders in our party. We have a great bench of people coming up. And I am really optimistic about the future of the Democratic Party in the future. As I said, there are certain adjustments we have to make. We’re going to do those. And I think people are going to realize that the Democratic Party is the party of working families, of working people. We’re doing more for them. We’re going to show them that some of these Republican things like tax cuts for the very wealthy individuals, which were – they – they did it in 2017, and they lost the election in 2018. They haven’t learned. But we’re going to hold their feet to the fire when they do things that hurt working people. We’re going to stand with the working families of America. And that’s going to bode very well for us,” Schumer replied, refusing to answer the question.
