SCOTUS Hands Trump A Huge Win

The Supreme Court voted 6-3 Monday that former presidents have broad immunity from criminal prosecution, according to The Hill.

“BIG WIN FOR OUR CONSTITUTION AND DEMOCRACY. PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!” former President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social following the decision. He told Fox that he’s been “harassed by the Democrat Party, Joe Biden, Obama and their thugs, fascists and communists for years” adding that “And now the courts have spoken … Now I am free to campaign like anyone else. We are leading in every poll – by a lot – and we will make America great again.”

What Did SCOTUS Actually Do?

The Supreme Court ruled that Trump’s case connected to his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election needs to be sent back to the lower courts to determine whether his actions met the qualifications for immunity protection, The Hill explained. “At least with respect to the president’s exercise of his core constitutional powers, this immunity must be absolute. As for his remaining official actions, he is entitled to at least presumptive immunity,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in his majority opinion.  The opinion also notes that there is “no immunity for unofficial acts.”
