Superstar Actor Speaks Of ‘Spiritual Awakening’

Apr 3, 2024

Actor Dennis Quaid sat for an interview with the Christian Post in April to discuss his road to redemption.

Quaid was raised Baptist but fell out of his faith after a Sunday School teacher chastised him for forgetting his quarter for the offering plate, the outlet explained. “The subject matter turned me off,” he said. “There were probably some other things, too. I started asking questions that didn’t have answers. … I started to question my faith.”

“I read the Bible cover to cover as well, back then, and I got hung up in the Old Testament, how violent it was. God seemed like a punishing God back then to me. A lot of it just didn’t make sense,” he continued. (LEARN MORE: ‘We Need Jesus’: Joe Rogan & Aaron Rodgers On Faith)

Addiction … To Faith

Quaid suffered a serious cocaine addiction until the mid-1990s, well into his stardom. But he made the decision to get sober. “I went back, and I read the Bible again, cover to cover, and what really struck being that this time were the red words of Jesus and who He really was,” he told the outlet. “That was the beginning of my personal relationship with Jesus Christ. And that’s really what it’s all about. From there, it’s grown, and it does fill up that hole inside me. I was there all along; my mother taught me that, but we have to learn things for ourselves. It led me right back to where I started.” (LEARN MORE: Actor Dennis Quaid Credits God For Helping Him Through Addiction)

What About Now?

Quaid’s career is thriving. He’ll portray a serial killer in Paramount+’s “Happy Face” and will appear in “Reagan,” a feature film about our 40th President. He also released a gospel album in 2023 that was seriously successful.

“”I think there’s a spiritual awakening actually going on in our country right now,” he said. “There’s been a lot of turmoil, and that’s what spiritual awakenings look like because of what it takes to get there. I think we’re right at the beginning of it.” (LEARN MORE: ‘The Chosen’ Reveals Hidden Secrets Within The Show)
