Million Voices founder John Graves joined FlashPoint to describe how best to sway policy with your elected officials right now, with a sharp focus on universal school choice.
Universal School Choice legislation is set to hopefully pass throughout a slew of states in the coming year. In Texas, it’s a particularly big battle. The program allows all students living within a state where Universal School Choice is enacted to receive tuition assistance for private education.
Graves joined FlashPoint to discuss the best way to lobby your locally elected officials into voting in favor of school choice, and how best to override the directives of big corporations and teachers unions.
What You Need To Do
Texas lawmakers currently have the choice to allow parents to send their children to better schools, especially if their current school is failing them. All you have to do is text the word KIDS to 80550 today, and Million Voices will contact your local officials on your behalf, and ensure they know your vote depends on them institution Universal School Choice.
“This is the problem: the reason nobody changes this stuff, is these reps, who represent us, they don’t hear from the voters in their districts. So we match the voter to their district. We give you an example letter, you can change it however you want. But we do all the work for you. We make it easy. It’s a free tool,” Graves explained. “But it can connect you to your state rep, and if you let your voice be heard, that’s when [lawmakers, elected officials] start going, ‘well, I guess I ought to do something about this. The lobby over here, the union lobby, is surely paying me money. But now if my voters are mad. Now I’m stuck.'”
Graves compared the power of YOUR VOICE to the changes that happened at the federal level of our government. Watch his whole commentary here:
Community Keeps Us Going
The government may think your child’s life and education career are best conducted under their rule, but we know that parents should always come first. There are entire cities where public schools can’t educate one student to math proficiency — do you really want this for your child’s experience?
You can tell your local, state, and federally elected officials how you want your public schools to look today. Sign up for www.Change.MillionVoices.org today (text MV to 80550). We’ll ensure your voice is heard. Our mission is to ensure the voice of voters and taxpayers is turned into action, and your elected officials are held responsible for their actions.
