Intel Officials Cry ‘Disinformation’ Ahead Of 2024 Elections

An official from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said Wednesday that political candidates will likely be to targets of foreign disinformation campaigns ahead of the 2024 election.

The official did not go into detail on what these targets want from their influence over candidates, lawmakers, and other officials, but that the number of potential threats is higher because “presidential elections draw more attention from our adversaries,” according to Newsmax.

Who Is Targeting Us? And Why?

Officials say the top nations that pose a threat to the U.S. are Russia, China, and Iran, “as well as a growing number of second-tier players like Cuba,” the outlet noted. Russia’s alleged objective is to decrease confidence in American democracy, as well as reduce support for Ukraine. Iran is seen as a “chaos agent,” likely to stoke voter anger and violence. Another official, who spoke to reporters under the guarantee of anonymity, said that many of the campaigns aimed at spreading disinformation are centered on corroding trust in our election process.
