How To Protect Your Local Elections Today

Graves told Beck that it is at the county level where election security is best enacted. “[Because] county people are sometimes elected by … 200 [voters],” Beck quipped, noting that the ability to have a relationship with your local county election official is sometimes far easier than at the state or federal level. “And you may be the county official, you may be the state [representative], or you may be friends with them,” Graves continued. “And they may say ‘I had no idea [election security] was a concern. How Can We Secure Elections?

If election security is a concern within your district, Million Voices can help. “We give them clear steps,” Graves continued. “You can encrypt the user password, is just one quick step. You can make sure we keep the paper ballots, keep the images, have a clear chain of custody, just simple, you know about five simple things that anyone could do. And then the third thing you can do. “We ask people to just personalize that letter because [your elected officials] have to process a letter very differently [to emails and calls],” Graves noted, “and it is kind of also documenting ‘hey, there’s a lot of people concerned about this and it’s when the citizens speak out that things happen. That’s my passion at Million Voices.”
