Venezuela Erupts In Protests After Socialists Steal Election
Protests and demonstrations throughout Venezuela turned violent in late July, leading to at least 16 deaths since the presidential election was stolen Sunday by the socialist dictator Nicola Maduro.
The National Election Council declared Maduro the victor with 51% of the vote. When supporters of the opposition started to protest the results, Maduro sent the military to “suppress them with force,” said the Washington Stand. (LEARN MORE: Who Is J.D. Vance, Trump’s Vice Presidential Pick?)
The incidents come after a “not entirely honest” election. “First, the government blocked opposition leader Maria Corina Machado from even running in the election. Next, they intimidated poll-goers with threats of armed violence. Then they claimed Maduro had beaten opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez by seven points, 51% to 44%, without producing the evidence,” wrote the outlet’s Joshua Arnold in his commentary and analysis on the situation.
Evidence Points To Gonzales
U.S.-based Edison Research interviewed almost 7,000 voters across 100 locations and found 65% favored Gonzales to 31% for Maduro. Random samples taken at voting centers found Gonzales bringing in an estimated 66% of the vote. Overall, 80% of precincts reported Gonzales leading 67% to Maduro’s 31%, which is “remarkably consistent.”
“On Sunday, Nicolás Maduro did what dictators do. He lied, cheated, and stole another election,” wrote the National Review. (LEARN MORE: Gov. Signs 3 Huge Election Integrity Bills Ahead Of Nov. 2024)
What Is Happening in Venezuela?
Venezuelan exile Ana Leca wrote that her home nation is “ruled by a despotic regime so afraid of losing its grip on power that it oppresses, imprisons, and tortures those who dare speak out.”
“Currently there are around 300 political prisoners, all subjects of psychological and/or of physical torture. The regime monitors and tracks their family, friends, and associates,” she claimed, adding that the Maduro regime maintains “the largest torture center in the Americas.” (LEARN MORE: State Finds County Violated Election Law In 2022)
