Feds Snooped On Religious, Gun-Owning Americans

Republican Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan issued a letter in January claiming the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) “urged large financial institutions to comb through the private transactions of their customers for suspicious charges based on protected political and religious expression.”

The letter was issued from Jordan’s position as the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee’s Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government. “Following January 6, 2021, FinCEN distributed materials to financial institutions that, among other things, outlined the ‘typologies’ of various persons of interest,” Jordan continued. The “guidance” included terms like “Trump” and “MAGA” all the way to “transportation charges … for travel to areas with no apparent purpose.”

Some of these words were claimed to be “extremism indicators.” Books were also listed, as well as “radical, traditional” Catholics.

Targeting Christians

The Washington Stand argued that the Biden Administration labeled the U.S. Supreme Court as “extremist” following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. This standard could mark anyone who values Life as “extreme.” The FBI uses a rating system designed by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) that classifies anyone or anything outside of their ideological bounds as “extreme.”

“Potential Active Shooters”

FinCEN distributed documents from Key Bank in Ohio which stated other banks could easily detect gun and gun-related purchases by “potential active shooters.” This phrase literally describes someone who hasn’t committed a crime, and labels them as something they are not, nor may they ever become. It is wholly unclear why anyone would want to create something that appears to be based on “horrific wishful thinking” as the Washington Stand wrote.
