Johnson Pushes Bill On Voter ID Requirements

May 9, 2024

House Speaker Mike Johnson promoted legislation Wednesday that would require individuals to show proof of U.S. citizenship when casting votes in federal elections.

Johnson was joined by Republican Utah Sen. Mike Lee, attorney Cleta Mitchell, Tea Party Patriots Jenny Beth Martin, and former President Donald Trump adviser Stephen Miller when he spoke, saying “We all know, intuitively, that a lot of illegals are voting in federal elections.” He added, “But it’s not been something that is easily provable. We don’t have that number.”

“What we’re talking about today is the 2024 election — nobody can go back and relitigate what happened in 2020,” Johnson continued. Apparently, Johnson and Trump have spoken multiple times in the last few days, according to Politico, suggesting the speaker is aligning himself with the former President ahead of the 2024 elections. What Is The Legislation?

Johnson promised that the House would pass legislation, colloquially called the “voter ID bill” before sending it to the Senate for consideration. Politico noted that the bill has little chance of leaving the Senate, likely because it is made up of mostly Democrats. Our Democratic President Joe Biden has done absolutely nothing to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into the U.S. since his time in the Oval Office. Not only has this led to the greatest human trafficking crisis in modern history, but it has put American elections and lives in great danger. While illegal immigrants are barred from voting in elections, this just means there is no legal reason to oppose the use of IDs when casting votes.
