Maryland District Removes Parental Education Rights

May 25, 2024

A federal court ruled Wednesday that Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland do not have to give parents the right to opt their children out of LGBT-themed lessons.

The U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals removed the rights of parents to opt their children out of classes that, for some reason, revolve around individual sexuality and potentially mental health issues. The county added almost two dozen “LGBTQ+ initiative texts” to pre-K through 8th-grade curriculums in 2023, according to the Washington Stand. Why the members of the county school board felt the need to include sexually themed content for extremely young children is unclear.

A lawsuit brought about by Christian and Muslim parents who wanted to opt their children out of the sexually-themed classes noted that parents were told that “no notice will be given” for when the classes will take place. And “no opt-outs [will be] tolerated because [students] must learn to be more ‘LGBTQ-Inclusive.’”

Forcing Sexual Content on Children

More than 1,000 parents attended subsequent county school board meetings to protest the decision to force this content onto children. District Court judge Deborah Boardman, who was appointed by President Joe Biden, ruled against the Maryland parents on Wednesday. She claimed that the mandatory LGBT lessons did not constitute religious liberty infringement.

She also wrote that “reading books about transgenderism, drag queens, and bondage fetishes to children as young as three ‘is not indoctrination’ and does not ‘directly or indirectly’ coerce children into activity ‘that violates their religious beliefs.'” (LEARN MORE: World Expert Says Transgenderism Is ‘Mental Disorder,’ Sex Changes Are ‘Biologically Impossible,’ And The Industry Will Collapse Like Eugenics Did)

Again, it is unclear why America traditionally opted out of teaching children about sex altogether, while teaching adolescents about the importance of abstinence and, in some cases, safe sex … and now judges and school boards are forcing glorified infants to learn about sexual behaviors before they can largely learn to read to understand the world around them.

Subtle Inclusion Of Sexual Material

“It’s important to understand that this is an effort to develop curriculum to affirm diverse identities,” Family Research Council’s Senior Fellow for Education Studies Meg Kilgannon warned via the Washington Stand. She added that the lessons are “not a separate unit (it’s not sex education)” but include “sexual material that is meant to be incorporated in lessons as the teacher is instructing children in math, reading, science, or history.” (LEARN MORE: Children Fail Basic Classes Across US)

“That is what makes it so noxious — the incorporation of this material this way makes it impossible to remove the content or to remove children from the classes where it is taught,” Kilgannon continued. “The progressive administrative staff insist on incorporating this material in lessons exactly this way BECAUSE the parents don’t want it. It’s based on a belief that ‘LGBTQ children’ are likely to be oppressed by their religious families and that the school community should be the place they can ‘learn to be themselves.’” (LEARN MORE: Female Mass Shooters & The Rise In Transgenderism)
