Senior Biden Team Explain What It’s Like Working For Him

An article published Tuesday by Politico shed light on what senior officials within the Biden administration think of working for President Joe Biden, the oldest president in American history.

As America draws closer to the 2024 presidential elections, all eyes are on the White House and those running it. Following Thursday’s debate between Biden and former President Donald Trump, some senior officials spoke anonymously with Politico about their working relationship with our current president. Their top concern: how those closest to Biden are working overtime to “strictly” control him and his term. 

Politico’s writers say that “During meetings with aides who are putting together formal briefings they’ll deliver to Biden, some senior officials have at times gone to great lengths to curate the information being presented in an effort to avoid provoking a negative reaction.” (LEARN MORE: Biden Sued Over Conservative Censorship)

What Does This Mean?

“It’s like, ‘You can’t include that, that will set him off,’ or ‘Put that in, he likes that,’” one senior official told the outlet. “It’s a Rorschach test, not a briefing. Because he is not a pleasant person to be around when he’s being briefed. It’s very difficult, and people are scared shitless of him.”

What Happened During The Debate?

“The whole planning, preparation was political malpractice,” said Democratic “megadonor” John Morgan of Biden’s “dismal” debate appearance. He added that senior advisor Anita Dunn, former chief of staff Ron Klain, and Dunn’s husband Bob Bauer, let him down. “I think he has a misplaced trust in these three people, and I believe he has from the inception.”

“The number of people who have access to the president has gotten smaller and smaller and smaller. They’ve been digging deeper into the bunker for months now,” said one Democratic strategist, adding that “the more you get into the bunker, the less you listen to anyone.” (LEARN MORE: State Finds County Violated Election Law In 2022)

Ignoring Key Issues?

Politico spoke with more than two dozen people in order to write their article. While the White House disputed the comments made by those working around the president, many of the interviewees seemed to have no idea how consistent their analysis was. The White House “specifically disputed the claim that Biden is protected from dissenting opinions, noting that it’s been the job of a staff secretary in every administration to make sure the president gets all of the information he needs and nothing extraneous.”

“By the time Biden’s campaign proposed two debates with Trump, many White House staffers had no idea it was in the works, according to three administration officials,” Politico noted. Another operative said that Biden’s team “don’t take dissent … If you try, then you don’t get invited to the next call, the next meeting.”
