Trump Aims To Stop China Buying American Farmland

Former President Donald Trump told Breitbart in September that he plans to stop the Chinese Communist Party’s (CPP) efforts to purchase American farmland.

Trump made the statements during an almost hour-long interview with the outlet, where he outlined many other strategic policy initiatives to get America back on track after the last four years. “We have to have control of our land,” the presidential candidate said. “We have to have control of our economy. We have to have control of our borders. We have to make sure we’re in charge of our own country. We’re losing that with these people, these unbelievable so-called leaders we have. They’re allowing our country to be sold out from under us. We have to be very careful and we have to be very prudent. We can’t let this happen. Do you think China would let us go in and buy their land and do what they do? I don’t think so, okay. It won’t happen. Overwhelming Threats From China

In May 2024, House Oversight and Accountability Committee chairman Kentucky Republican James Comer said that U.S. intelligence agencies have “no government plan” to counter the CPP’s threats to American security. “[W]e’ve known for years [that] they’re stealing our patents, they’re stealing our intellectual property,” Comer said at the time. “They’ve engaged in creating spy centers all across America, not just at our public universities. Comer’s comments came shortly after House China Committee Chairman, Michigan Republican Rep. John Moolenaar noted the “alarming lack of urgency” by the Biden-Harris administration to mitigate potential warfare attacks from China. “American military bases in the Indo-Pacific are under threat. With its current strike capabilities, China can attack U.S. bases in the region, including those on U.S. territories of Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands,” Moolenaar told Fox at the time.

States Want To Ban China’s Land Grab

By April 2024, more than 2 out of every 3 U.S. states were either looking to, or have established, laws to prevent non US citizens from nations with hostile relationships with the U.S. from owning our land. While many Republicans continue to call for prohibitions on China buying U.S. land, Trump is vowing to make it a top priority within his potential future administration. “People from other countries wanted to do our telecommunications and I wouldn’t allow it. We have to be careful. We’re going to be very firm on it,” Trump told Breitbart. He also aired concerns over a potential Harris-Walz administration and the current Vice President’s limitations on public, unscripted communication. When asked directly if he thought Harris could handle herself with CCP leader Xi Jin-Ping, Trump said, “no, not even on the most basic conversations. She can’t answer a question from Oprah Winfrey.”
