Republicans raged Thursday night upon learning that the FBI will receive $200 million toward the construction of new headquarters.

The $1.2 trillion bipartisan spending bill released Thursday was supposed to cut the FBI’s operating budget by at least $654 million, according to Newsmax. Instead, lawmakers were shocked to find the inclusion of the massive $200 million toward the General Services Administration, which constructs federal buildings. “The $1.2 trillion, 1000-page swamp-bus released in the dead of night includes $200 MILLION for a new FBI Headquarters So much for those ‘cuts’ to FBI,” Republican Texas Rep. Chip Roy said on X.

“The FBI labels parents as domestic terrorists, targets pro-lifers, and wages a war against conservative Americans. Their punishment? $200 MILLION for a new headquarters in this ‘minibus,'” wrote Republican Missouri Rep. Eric Burlison.

Why Does The FBI Need New Headquarters?

Why the FBI needs new headquarters is really anybody’s guess. Republican Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz unsuccessfully tried to launch an amendment against the funding in 2023. But 70 Republicans voted against it. (LEARN MORE: Most US Voters Think CIA, FBI May Control 2024’s Election)

“This bipartisan legislation invests in … the necessary funding to build the new FBI headquarters in Greenbelt, Maryland. Unfortunately, Republicans demanded cuts that will make it harder for federal agencies to deliver results for the American people, but I am glad that we defeated the most egregious cuts and harmful provisions put forward by MAGA Republicans in the House,” Democratic Maryland Senator. Chris Von Hollen said of the measure.

Reports surfaced in February of the U.S. intelligence community (IC) illegally mobilizing foreign intelligence agencies to target those who advised former President Donald Trump, according to Newsmax. These reports come from journalists Matt Taibbi, Michael Shellenberger, and Alex Gutentag, who spoke to multiple credible sources regarding the allegations. Despite these claims not being confirmed, the intelligence community also hasn’t denied them. (LEARN MORE: Biden Ignores Christian Massacres For 3rd Year In A Row)

The lack of serious investigation into attacks against Christian groups, the open border crisis, and so many other issues all contribute to the list of reasons U.S. voters may find it hard to trust our agencies. So, what are we to do? (LEARN MORE: Biden Sued Over Conservative Censorship)
